CrossFit wedding party CrossFit wedding party

Congratulations to Scott and Kierstin on their marriage last Saturday. Scott’s been with us since the early days, and we’ve never seen him happier than he’s been since Kierstin came into the picture. She and Raina don’t just tolerate Scott’s devotion to fitness and the Zone, they’ve joined right in. What a match!

Best wishes to all three of you, from the whole CFES family!

Community makes it better
Mt. Rainier’s Strongest Man and Woman II was a great success. The event raised money and awareness for Fragile X, the most common inherited cause of mental impairment and the most commonly known cause of autism.

The venue was bustling and energetic, the competition strong, and the event well organized. Everyone had a grand time. CrossFit was well represented, the crowd full of folks in t-shirts from a number of of affiliates. You know you are around fellow CrossFit athletes when you hear someone say, “They may be strong, but do you think they could complete all the events back to back, one end to the other, for time?” That would be an interesting twist, now, wouldn’t it…

We were proud to part of such a great event, put on by great people, from a great community. Better every year!

Josh ScottOver his summer vacation, Josh Scott has been training to start his freshman season on UC Riverside’s basketball team. Josh was part of the 2007 State Champion team from O’Dea High School in Seattle and was recruited to play for Riverside. His strength and conditioning coach hooked Josh up with CrossFit Eastside to prepare him for the work that will be required from him as a starter for UCR. Josh Scott dunk!

Josh possesses a rare combination of natural genetic talent, a strong work ethic, and a father who’s a professional basketball skills coach. He is a fine young man and a gifted athlete. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the gym and on the court.

Good luck, Josh!

Congratulations to Eastside CrossFitters Volker and Steven for accomplishing their Trans-Alp cycling tour! In seven days they rode 628 km, from Mittenwald, Germany, to Riva del Garda, Italy, climbing a total of 21,693 vertical meters, mostly off-road. These guys trained hard in the gym and put in many miles in the saddle while ramping up for their grand adventure. Their squat-strengthened bodies were good to go, and all went well, with the minor exception of a broken bike frame.

Welcome home!

Chris Smith - CrossFitter and Hang glider pilot
Good luck to our Chris Smith, recent CrossFit convert and devotee, and #1-ranked cross-country hang gliding pilot in the U.S., as he heads off to compete in the 2007 World Hang Gliding Championships in Big Springs, Texas.
Be safe, Chris, and may you find all the lift you can handle.

“Unlike barbells, which are made to be lifted, stones naturally defy man’s best efforts to be lifted. They are not only heavy, but when they are also slick, round, and big, they force your body into the worst possible mechanics for lifting.” – Steve Jeck

And a reminder that this Saturday, July 21, is Mt Rainier’s Strongest Man and Woman II. Event details are posted on the gym whiteboard. We are all looking forward to fun times, and great people! The festivities will continue that evening at a BBQ at the home (in Buckley, about 15 mins from the strongman site) of the sweaty guy in the pics, immediately following the novice event. Address and directions available in the gym (or e-mail us).
